Best Oscillating Multi-Tool Blade? DeWalt, Milwaukee, Bosch, Rockwell, Dremel, EZARC, Imperial
Test1.which blades cut through 25x 16 penny nails the fastest?
There's quite a bit of prep work to be done to build the test pieces,I'll first sand the fully cured and dried pressure treated 4 by fours to knock off any rough edges the oscillating tool be sliding along the surface of the 4 by 4 and we want to make sure that things are as smooth and slick as possible.
So I'll be applying a coating of candle wax on all four sides of the 4 by4s.We need the nails to be a near perfect alignment,so the same area of blade is compared.so I'll use a board with markings as a template.I'll go ahead and drive in 25x 16penny nails into each of the 4 by 4s the last step is to attach a 2 by 4 fence along both sides of the 4 by 4.I'll position the test set up at 50 degrees and fasten it to the wall.I'll go ahead and place the oscalating tool on level 12 the highest speed setting on the Milwaukee 18 volt tool, the weight of the tool should be adequate once the tool is in position.
we'll see how long it takes for each brand to cut through 25 nails and then. we'll look at the condition of each of the blades the dwal started off fast at 3.6 seconds on the first nail hit hacks had gained a little speed.
DeWalt—Dwa4209,$8.64/per,made in China
On the second and third nail the DeWalt cut through the first 10 nails in only 40 second. But it's slowing down, the 10th nail took 4.6 seconds, after cutting through 13 nails it came to a sudden stop, after grinding away for 30 seconds I stopped the test.
Unfortunately the nails did a lot of damage to the blade totally wiping out all the teeth on the dwell at only 8 dollars and 65 cents per blade.
EZARC—OIC34A,$8.65/per,made in China
this is EZARC brand,it claims to last up the 30 times longer.lt claims to have carbide tech made in China,up the 30 times longer lifetime than bimetal blades.
the EZARC blade was slightly faster than Dewalt on the first nail,at 3.6 seconds, however the EZARC took 13 seconds longer to cut through the first 10 nails.
Compared to the Dewalt the 10th nail took 5.5 seconds almost a full second longer than Dewalt. However the EZARC didn't slow down much after the first 10 nails and cut through all 25 nails in 2 minutes and 26 seconds.Wow the EZARC held up much better before the carbide teeth did experience quite a bit of wear.there's still a lot of use left in this blade at a price of only 9 dollars and 55 cents per blade.
Bosch—OSL114C-3,$9.55/per,made in Switzerland
This Bosch brand,30 times a life,Carbide Extreme made in Switzerland.Bosch was the slowest yet cutting through the first nail in 6.7 seconds.lt did pick up some speed after the first nail, but it took 63 seconds to cut through 10 nails which is 10 seconds slower than EZARC.lt cut through the 10th nail in 6 seconds, but slowed down quite a bit.The Bosch needed 3 minutes and 29 seconds to cut through all 25 nails.
The teeth on the Bosch are pretty much used up,the teeth on the EZARC definitely held up better. At a price of ten dollars and six cents per blade.
Imperial—IBOAT360-5,$10.06/per,made in USA
is this Imperial brand,30 times the life,it's designed for thick metal steel pipe screw, copper pie tile. These Imperial blades are USA made.
The Imperial cut through the first nail at 6.4 seconds, which is nearly 2 seconds long with EZARC,but slightly faster than Bosch.
It gained a little speed cutting through the first 10 nails in 54 seconds, only 1 seconds slower than EZARC.It cuts through the 10th nail at a pretty good time at only 4.9 seconds,it made it through all 25 nails in the second fastest time at 2 minutes and 39 seconds, which is only 13 seconds slower than EZARC the teeth are in slightly better conditioned than Bosch.
But the EZARC's teeth are definitely in better shape. At a price for 10 dollars and 50 cents per blade.
Dremel—MM485B,$11.5/per,made in Switzerland
is this Dremel Multi Max carbide cutting technology, these blades are made in Switzerland.
The dremel brand started out faster than Bosh and Imperial at only 5.8 seconds. On the first nail,it gains some speed knocking down the first 10 nails and 56 seconds.Only 3 seconds slower than EZARC blades.Dremel continued to move at a very fast pace slicing through all 25 nails and 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
The fastest time yet so dremel takes the lead from EZARC even though the drem will cut through the nails faster there's quite a bit more visible wear compared to the EZARC at a price of 14 dollars and 99 cents.
Fein—63502236270,$15/per,made in Germany
This is fine brand Carbide Pro,Carbide and 10 coated, these fine blades are made in Germany.
the fine plied through the first nail in a pretty fast 5.2 seconds, but it began losing momentum pretty quickly. It needed 82 seconds to cut through the first 10 nails. Its loss and cutting speed is very noticeable needing 7.9 seconds to cut through the 10th nail.It cut through all 25 nails and 3 minutes and 7 seconds
,which is over 30 seconds slower than Dremel.
which is in the lead the teeth on the fine are pretty much used up.At a price of 15 dollars and 49 cents per blade.
Rockwell—RW8963.2,$15.49/per,made in USA
is this Rockwell brand,it claims to offer extended life, these blades are carbide tipped, these Rockwell blades are made in USA.
The Rockwell needed 7.3 seconds to cut through the first nail, which is the slowest time yet.It did gain some momentum mowing down the first 10 nails in 65 seconds, but it really slowed down a lot on the 10th nail, needing 13 seconds.Across the finish line of three minutes and 44 seconds the slowest time yet.
The teeth in the rock well are pretty much worn off,at 15 dollars and 99 cents.
Milwaukee—48-90-0020,$19.99/per,made in USA
The most expensive brand will be testing is made by Milwaukee Titanium Coated Multi Tool Blades.Milwaukee is made in USA of global materials unlike the other brands,Milwaukee's tooth design cuts on the right stroke, while the other brands are designed to cut material during both the left and the right stroke.
Milwaukee totally crushed the first nail in only 1.6 seconds, which is more than twice as fast as any other brand. It cut through the first 10 nails in only 30 seconds, which is 10 seconds faster than any of the other brands.Yhe Milwaukee is definitely slowing down quite a bit, needing 4.4 seconds to cut through the 10th nail.Unfortunately the Milwaukee stalled out on the 12th nail the blade designed the Milwaukee gave it a tremendous cutting speed advantage
but the tooth design became a problem, once the teeth began to dull.
THE TEST SUMMARY:
1st Nail Cut Time Test Results
If it's all about initial cutting speed the Milwaukee is by far the best. The EZARC in the Dewalt were both very fast at just over three and 1/2seconds.The Hercules and the Fein finished fourth and fifth respectively.
10 Nail Cut Time Test Results
25 Nail Cut Time Test Results
once again, the milwaukee was the fastest to cut through the first 10 nails at 30 seconds,Dwalt second at 40 ,Hercules 3rd at 44,EZARC 4th at 53 and the period of 5th at 54 seconds, while the Dremel brand didn't cut through the first 10 nails as fast as many of the other brands it cut through all 25 nails the fastest at only 133 seconds the Bauer and the Hercules tied for second at 139 the EZARC finished fourth at 146 and the Imperial fifth at 159.
Test2.Which blade cuts more drywall screws?
compared to nails drywall screws are incredibly hard and the blades just won't last nearly as long. However,I'll be overly optimistic and add 20 drywall screws to each board, just in case one blade really performs exceptionally well.
After doing a lot of experimentation to find the right feed and speed rate.I lowered the speed to the lowest speed setting and added a total of 5 pounds of the oscalating multi tool.I'll be using new blades for this test.
DeWalt—Teeth after cutting 0 drywall screws
Testing DeWalt first the Drywalt screw is just too hard for the DeWalt blade. After 2 minutes of grinding away.it just wasn't able to grind its way through the screw, and the teeth on the DeWalt experience quite a bit of damage.
EZARC—Teeth after cutting 5 drywall screws
let's see if the EZARC can cut through the drywall screws.Wow the EZARC made quick work on the first drywall screw in only 12 seconds. It lost a little speed with the second drywall screwat 17 seconds. The EZARC mowed down 5 drywall screws in a minute and 44 seconds before running out of steam. So EZARC takes a lead, the EZARC actually held up rather well with plenty of carbide material still on the blade.
Bosch—Teeth after cutting 2 drywall screws
And the Bosch cut through the first screw in 25 seconds, the second screw took a little over a minute.Unfortunately the Bosch wasn't able to make it past the third screw, the Bosch did a little bit better than the DeWalt, but definitely didn't hold up as well as the EZARC.
Imperial—Teeth after cutting 3 drywall screws
the Imperial got off to a great start, cutting through the first drywall screw. In only 8 seconds it's really struggled to make it past the second drywall screw, but it finally did after a 2 minute battle. It took another minute to cut through the third screw,so the Imperial made it through three screws. The teeth on the Imperial blade are in pretty bad shape and pretty much used up.
The dremel started out fast with an 8 second time on the first screw.unfortunately it's one and done for the dremel brand. There was quite a bit of damage to the teeth on the dremel.
Fein—Teeth after cutting 3 drywall screws
The fein did a great job cutting through three drywall screws, but his teeth are definitely used up.
The rock well cut through the first drywall screw in 21 seconds.Unfortunately it was one and done for the rock well, the teeth in the rock well are in pretty bad condition.
The Hercules got off to a really slow start with a 31 second time on the first screw.Unfortunately the Hercules was finished after just one screw, while the teeth and the Hercules are pretty chewed up.
Milwaukee—Teeth after cutting 0 drywall screws
Unfortunately, the Milwaukee just wasn't able to cut through the drywall screw. The material is just too hard the Milwaukee blade is completely used up.
THE TEST SUMMARY:
All Brand Total Drywall Screws Test Results
The EZARC came out on top cutting through five drywall screws. The bauer came in second with four, the Imperial and fine tied for third with three screws and the Bosch 5th cutting through two screws.
EZARC can be very hard to beat, when you consider the price and the performance of the blade.I really like Imperial blades quite a bit, they're a very fast cutting blade, but they don't last quite as long as the EZARC.Finally the Bower Blade is a very good blade.but unfortunately it's way overpriced.
In my opinion, why spend 15 dollars for the Bower where you can buy the EZARC for under 9 dollars.
